Truett's Grill: Wait...this is in Georgia...why is this in the blog...?.....

During my spontaneous (and required) trip to and from Illinois, the toughest traffic was by far the Atlanta area. It’s frustrating, congesting, maddening, and tests every ounce of patience you have on your body. My first fight against Atlanta led to a 90-minute traffic jam that makes Miami traffic seem harmless. While Miami will always have the most epic traffic jams, with its multitude of options you at least have a chance to maneuver through the madness. Atlanta however----you have no hope. But you are not reading this because of the traffic report, you are reading this because I discovered a place.

After a nasty battle that absorbed a quarter of my gasoline, I decided to take a break to calm down before I denounce everything Georgia-based for the rest of eternity. One of the signs on the highway pointed out that a Chik-Fil-A is located on one of the exits. I can never resist the juicy, plump, mildly sweet pressure-cooked chicken. However when I arrived at the scene, it was a place that serves Chik-Fil-A. Close enough.

Apparently Truett’s Grill is a diner that is essentially a Steak n’ Shake version of Chik-Fil-A. The inside has the similar black-and-white décor, and there was even one of those classic jukeboxes in the corner cranking out oldies hits. The place is separated into two parts—one is for ordering, grabbing, and going. The other side is the calmer, be-seated-and-wait-for-a-server. I went with the latter.

The best part about Truett’s Grill is that you can order Chik-Fil-A’s infamous breakfast options anytime during the day. Their chicken biscuits remain the best breakfast item from any fast food place, seriously. However, I went instead with their chicken strips with fries and mashed potatoes.

The only difference between the usual Chik fare and the food here is that the portions are larger and of course you get certain diner sides that usually aren’t offered by the smaller buildings of Chik-Fil-A. The mashed potatoes were decent and got along great with the chicken. Otherwise it’s the usual suspects as the chicken strips were amazingly juicy, hearty, and had a slight sweet tang and the waffle fries were decent. I’ve always said if Chik-Fil-A ever got access to Checkers/Rally’s seasoned fries then they would be utterly unstoppable.

Bottom Line: Truett’s Grill isn’t a massive, massive deviation from its sister Chik-Fil-A restaurants, but why mess with the formula that works? Good food, good prices, good atmosphere, what’s not to love?

I’ll tell you what….the mid-Georgia traffic……………

Final Verdict: Recommend
